This area is home to a large population of trophy whitetails due to hunting regulations placed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, which placed restrictions on hunters, and outfitters. The soil make up in this area is rich and is a good source of food for these whitetails.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources limits firearms hunters and outfitters can use to muzzle loaders and shotguns. Rifles and long range guns are not allowed.
